Samsung SDS has a wide array of solutions for businesses and institutions. One of our many specialties is endpoint and security solutions: with the rise of IoT and high use of technology in keeping track of business data in the modern workplace, the need has also arisen for companies to make sure said data is secure from leaking, loss, or misuse.
Today we have invited Moritz to talk to us in more detail about our on-premise Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) Solution, designed to be as secure as possible, especially for large-scale organizations .
1. Hello! To start this interview, could you please introduce yourself and tell us about your role?
Hi, I’m Moritz and I’m Head of Industry Solutions at Samsung SDS Europe. Together with my team, I’m developing the external solution business within our industry vertical in Europe. Our focus is on solutions that drive business in a hyper-connected economy by helping our customers increase productivity, safeguard assets and make smarter decisions.
2. To contextualise, what is our on-prem EMM solution and how does it work?
The on-premise version of our EMM Solution is a best-in-class enterprise mobility management platform that runs in our customers’ own data centers or private clouds to give them full control of data, security and the administration of the solution. It is also able to set up and run everything in completely closed networks.
You can remotely manage corporate devices while securing sensitive corporate data. Other functionalities I’d like to highlight include Device/OS agnostic support, a quick and easy deployment, event-based policy enforcement, remote device support and a kiosk wizard functionality.
3. What are the advantages of an on-prem solution, and why are they enduring despite the current popularity of Cloud solutions?
Security, data protection and control plus economies of scale are the main advantages of an on-prem solution.
Growing cyber threats and global crises like wars, data leaks or espionage cases are causing more and more organizations to think of how to protect their data and endpoints the best way possible.
GBecause of this, many of them conclude that having some key IT systems like an EMM in-house absolutely makes sense.
4. What customers is this type of solution designed for?
It is especially government, public sector and military customers that are looking for high security solutions with full control over all data and the solution as such sometimes even operating in fully closed networks that come to us.
We’ve had other cases as well, like large enterprises that share the same security concerns and use their economy of scale, operating own data centers or private clouds. These customers tend to come with enterprise grade solutions with their own administrators and IT units.
For this reason, besides the solution itself, our offering ranges from consulting, training and helping to provide dedicated on-prem tech support tailored to the needs of our customers.
5. What gives our EMM solution an edge over our competition?
It has a private push service that is part of our EMM license, the best Samsung Knox support, and seamless integration – not to mention it has defense-grade security.
We offer a enterprise and a regulated version of our EMM, with the regulated version being CC certified and DISA STIG compliant. It becomes even more effective in combination: working with the other Knox on-prem solutions and Samsung devices, our solution offers a best-in-class end-to-end mobile security solution.
6. Lastly, how do you see the future of EMM and especially on-prem EMM developing?
The on-prem EMM market is still growing and the cloud EMM market is as well. In some industries and for some clients, there is no way around an on-prem installation, so there will be always a demand.
Moreover, current global developments such as wars, cyber-attacks, data leaks, etc. are why more and more enterprises and governments are considering on-prem solutions again. Another driver is regulation and compliance with data laws.
I don't think this situation will change in the near future, on the contrary, I think that cybersecurity and data protection will become increasingly important in the future as threats continue to grow.
