The 5R campaign began in Korea when the Environmental protector was established at Samsung SDS in 2023.
First, used coffee capsules from offices are collected and recycled (Recycle),
In order to reduce the use of disposable cups in the company cafe, a tumbler usage campaign was held, and a zero-waste challenge was also implemented in the cafeteria on Earth Day (Reduce).
On the Day without disposable plastic bag, there was a campaign not to receive plastic bags for takeout (Refuse)
In the company café, instead of plastic straws, corn starch straws and biodegradable cups were replaced with plastic cups (Rot).
We plan to operate reusable cups and take-out containers within this year (Reuse).
Employees' interest and participation in these 5R campaigns are increasing.
At a time when it has settled somewhat in Korea, we are pleased to announce that the 5R campaign will be launched overseas as well.
This time, we would like to introduce SDSA.
In the United States, where land is wide and resources are abundant, the mindset about saving resources and energy is indeed lacking compared to Korea. In SDSA office, paper cups are not provided in the office due to the no disposable cup movement, and everyone uses personal cups such as tumblers. During the day, only half of the lights were turned on using natural light, and in the restroom, water was saved by installing a sensor-based faucet.
Even in data centers in the United States, while the area of occupancy is limited, various efforts are being made for the environment. First, unused equipment is powered off one by one to save power consumption, and network equipment whose use has been completed is reused as a test during PoC rather than immediately discarded and stored. Also, the transition to the SCP cloud is currently underway, which reduces the number of servers used independently, resulting in energy savings..
Meanwhile, in the logistics area, LED lighting and motion sensors were installed in offices and warehouses to turn on the lights when moving, thereby reducing electricity consumption. In addition, pallet waste was reduced by using a method that does not require pallets for forklifts, and buffers (airbags) were separately collected and reused.
Environmental protector who visited SDSA on business this time presented a tumbler with the Samsung SDS logo as a souvenir to cheer for these activities. SDSA decided to continue to carry out more diverse 5R campaigns in the future, so please support them.
